Making a banner for your website doesn't have to be intimidating.  Sure you can pay someone $5 or more to create a banner... but you may never get exactly what you want.  Plus if use PowerPoint as your free banner maker, you can easily go back and modify it as your website grows.  Watch this video to learn how to make a website banner... it is easier than you think.

Note that I recommend actually making the banner a bit larger than the website asks... sometimes if the banner is too small it won't be accepted.  By making the banner a bit larger it helps prevent that from happening.
