Providing content and value is the best way to attract any form of income towards you.  I have seen a lot of great content out there in the way of blog posts, videos, and podcast.  But the number one thing online marketers do is either neglect or are too sales pitchy with their list.  Look at the last two weeks of emails you have sent to your list.. would these be emails you would want to receive?  If no, then you need to re-evaluate.
